Cactus Plant, Holiday

$16.00 USD

The Thanksgiving cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) is a popular tropical cactus that is sold around the holidays for its gorgeous and prolific flowers. As its common name indicates, the Thanksgiving cactus is known for blooming around Thanksgiving, bringing a splash of color into your home just as the weather outdoors is getting colder.

Details
  • Provide bright indirect light, such as in an east- or north-facing window. Plants perform well when brought outdoors for summer. Outdoors, locate your cactus in filtered sunlight, such as under a tree.
  • Water every 7-10 days.
  • While called and appearing like a cactus, the care is more similar to a tropical plant. They will show signs of stress on their foliage in the form of lack of color, drooping and shriveling.
  • Blooms last for 2-4 months and will re-bloom annually with proper care. To ensure a re-bloom, they prefer to be in as much darkness as possible overnight.
  • Thanksgiving cacti and Christmas cacti are collectively referred to as holiday cacti, along with the Easter cactus, with each species blooming around the holiday for which they are named. Because they are in bloom leading up to Christmas, Thanksgiving cacti are the most common species available in stores during the holiday season.
