Roles indicated by “part-time” and “full-time” are employee, payroll-based, and based out of our Maplewood shop. You are a pillar in the Brave Floral crew and scheduled regularly based on your availability.

Freelance roles are 1099 contractors, and are not considered an employees of Brave Floral. Work is based on our project/event needs either in Maplewood, or elsewhere within the 100 mile radius of Maplewood including NYC, Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore, Hudson Valley, etc. Freelancers are responsible for providing their own tools, transportation/mileage to and from the job, and proof of liability insurance.

Floral Designer

Availability: We are open to part-time, full-time, and freelance applicants for the Floral Designer role.

  • Part-time applicants should be available to work 2-3 days per week.
  • Full-time applicants should be available to work 5-6 days per week.
  • Freelance applicants are open to scheduling on a project, event, or as-needed basis for holidays, events, and weekends. Freelance applicants are required to carry their own insurance.

Job Description

You're curious, resourceful and open-minded. You know design styles, form and color palettes. You enjoy using flowers as a medium of art and design, but also understand the efficiency and quick pace required for an operational flower shop or working on-site at an event for installation and set up timelines. 

You can work both independently and on a larger team, taking direction well, and interpreting that into your work. You are level-headed and maintain composure under pressure and time constraints. We're looking for designers of intermediate to advanced levels of floral experience to join the team in several different capacities. You are expected to know how to design hand-tied bouquets, foam-free arrangements, funeral arrangements, personal flowers and wreaths using fresh and dried materials.

Any member of the Brave Floral crew is expected to uphold standards of Brave Floral service and values on a day-to-day basis.

Experience

  • Must have 2+ years of prior job experience in your respective field
  • Must have a portfolio of previous floral design work
  • Retail floral design or event floral design experience a plus
  • Formal floral design training from accredited institution a plus

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must provide a Certificate of Insurance for liability coverage (Freelance roles only)
  • Must have a reliable vehicle or transportation
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of different flower types and proper floral care
  • Flexible schedule including Saturday and Sunday
  • Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Must be able to work well under pressure managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to perform daily tasks

Shop Hand/Delivery Driver

  • Preferred work schedule for a full-time Shop Hand/Delivery Driver is Tuesday 8am-4pm, Wednesday - Saturday from 11am-4pm.
  • Preferred work schedule for a part-time Shop Hand/Delivery Driver has shift availability/ selection of any the following days: Wednesday 11am-2pm, Thursday 11am-2pm, Friday 10am-2pm, Saturday 11am-2pm

Job Description

You are naturally a strong communicator and a team player, who loves the versatility of supporting a small business in all aspects. You excel at executing tasks and taking initiative on defined priorities. 

Our shop hand is a foundational team member to the operations at Brave Floral, and you'll play an integral role as a member of the team at-large. As a shop hand, you’ll assist with an assortment of tasks in and out of the shop, for events and on behalf of Brave Floral. 

Core responsibilities and expectations for this position include making daily local deliveries in the Brave Floral shop van, picking up fresh material, supplies, and orders from local vendors and wholesalers, assisting with the processing of fresh flowers for our floral designers, running errands like shopping for materials and hardware, general shop cleaning, maintenance, handy person tasks, and event installation and breakdown. As a team member of Brave Floral, you will uphold the standards of Brave Floral service and values on a day-to-day basis. 

Job Functions

Delivery & Pick-up Support (50%)

  • Conducting shop deliveries - mostly within 10 miles of the shop, but as far as 100 miles from the shop for special events. 
  • Picking up vendor and wholesale orders from locales within NJ, NY and PA
  • Communicating with customers and/or vendors on an as-needed basis/troubleshooting

Event and External Project Support (30%)

  • Managing loading in/loading out/breaking down of event materials
  • Cleaning and organizing production space to ensure tidy appearance at all times, including work space and vehicles
  • Assisting with local container gardening projects and installations

General Shop Support (20%)

  • Shopping for supplies and materials for events and retail
  • Painting, patching, general assembly of goods
  • Organizing storage unit and inventory area
  • Cleaning and organizing shop space
  • Sanitizing of floral buckets and misc. tools used in the shop on a daily basis
  • Breaking down of boxes, removal of rubbish
  • Performing routine cleaning throughout shop

Experience

  • Must have 1+ years of prior job experience in any delivery, customer service or production capacity
  • Flower or garden retail/studio experience preferred, but not required

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must have a reliable vehicle & driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be comfortable driving on highways and in city traffic
  • Must have cell phone with GPS, text message and photo capabilities
  • Flexible schedule including weekends

Seasonal Retail Associate

Availability: Open to part-time applicants for seasonal availability. Daily shop hours are 10am-4pm.

  • Part-time applicants should be available to work 2-3 days per week.
  • Seasonal availability through the Fall and Winter seasons preferred, specifically October 1st through December 31st a must.
  • Preferred applicants will have at least 1 weekend day available for scheduling. 

Job Description

Our retail associates are a supporting role within Brave Floral with the key focus on all aspects of shop and retail. This is a customer-facing position, requiring a passion and strong desire to learn and educate customers about florals, plants, and our curated selection of hard goods. We enjoy sourcing unique and beautiful homewares and appreciate team members who enjoy a similar sense of style. Competencies in interpersonal communications, customer service and problem solving are a must. 

Any member of the Brave Floral crew is expected to uphold standards of Brave Floral service and values on a day-to-day basis.

Job Functions

Retail & Customer Service (50%)

  • Responsible for selling hard goods such as vases, ceramics, soaps and candles; educating customers about each vendor and artist
  • Manage the fresh flower bar; educating customers on type and care
  • Assist with processing new product inventory upon arrival
  • Prep packaging for daily orders and deliveries

Plant Care (25%)

  • Tending to plants currently in the shop and outdoors; watering on weekly basis, pruning and problem-solving any ailments/pests
  • Ensuring all retail plants are properly marked and tagged with plant care and pricing
  • Processing incoming/new plants into the shop
  • Repotting for shop inventory and customer orders 
  • Assisting customers with plant sales and offering recommendations based on needs

Shop Upkeep (25%)

  • Cleaning and organizing shop space to ensure tidy appearance at all times, including floors, windows, surfaces
  • Sanitizing of floral buckets and misc. tools used in the shop on a daily basis
  • Breaking down of boxes, removal of rubbish
  • Performing routine cleaning throughout shop

Experience

  • Must have 2+ years of prior job experience in retail, or other customer service related role
  • Flower or plant retail shop experience a plus
