Roles indicated by “part-time” and “full-time” are employee, payroll-based, and based out of our Maplewood shop. You are a pillar in the Brave Floral crew and scheduled regularly based on your availability.

Freelance roles are 1099 contractors, and are not considered an employees of Brave Floral. Work is based on our project/event needs either in Maplewood, or elsewhere within the 100 mile radius of Maplewood including NYC, Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore, Hudson Valley, etc. Freelancers are responsible for providing their own tools, transportation/mileage to and from the job, and proof of liability insurance.

Event Assistant (Temporary)

Proposed Schedule

  • This is a temporary, 3-month role
  • In-studio availability: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am - 3:30pm
  • Ability to flex for event weekends/evenings

Role Description

Brave Floral is looking for a Temporary Event Assistant to support our Founder/Head of Creative during our Event Manager’s maternity leave period. This role is both client-facing and operational, ideal for someone who is highly organized, proactive, and excited to be involved in the full lifecycle of event planning and execution.

As an Event Assistant, you will play a key role in managing incoming inquiries, supporting event logistics, and helping ensure a seamless experience for our clients from initial contact through execution. 

You are personable, professional, and genuinely enjoy connecting with people, bringing warmth and clarity to every client interaction. Highly organized and detail-oriented, you take initiative and are comfortable owning your responsibilities. You’re naturally curious and proactive, unafraid to ask questions, seek answers, and collaborate across teams to keep things moving forward. With a strong sense of foresight, you’re able to anticipate needs, think a few steps ahead, and understand how individual tasks fit into the bigger picture of each event. 

Job Functions 

  • Monitor and manage shared inboxes, ensuring timely and thoughtful responses
  • Intake and organize new event inquiries, maintaining clear and accurate records
  • Support Soiree orders and event related client communication, including information calls and order placement in collaboration with the shop floral team
  • Assist with ongoing event project management, helping track timelines, tasks, and deliverables
  • Contribute to proposal writing and client presentations
  • Coordinate details across internal teams to support smooth event execution
  • Manage and maintain inventory within the storage unit, ensuring materials are organized and accounted for
  • Managing loading in/loading out/breaking down of event materials
  • Cleaning and organizing production space to ensure tidy appearance at all times, including work space and vehicles
  • Assist with Instagram content creation for the events studio account, including capturing behind-the-scenes moments, event setups, and supporting the planning and posting of content

  • NJ Earned Sick Leave: (1) hour earned per (30) hours worked; max (40) hours in calendar year. Accrual begins upon hire
  • Mileage reimbursement at IRS rate for all business-related driving in own vehicle

Pay period

  • Hourly rates to be paid via payroll on bi-monthly basis on 15th and last day of the month

Floral Designer - Freelance

Job Description

You're curious, resourceful and open-minded. You know design styles, form and color palettes. You enjoy using flowers as a medium of art and design, but also understand the efficiency and quick pace required for an operational flower shop or working on-site at an event for installation and set up timelines. 

You can work both independently and on a larger team, taking direction well, and interpreting that into your work. You are level-headed and maintain composure under pressure and time constraints. We're looking for designers of intermediate to advanced levels of floral experience to join the team in several different capacities. You are expected to know how to design hand-tied bouquets, foam-free arrangements, funeral arrangements, personal flowers and wreaths using fresh and dried materials.

Any member of the Brave Floral crew is expected to uphold standards of Brave Floral service and values on a day-to-day basis.

Experience

  • Must have 2+ years of prior job experience in your respective field
  • Must have a portfolio of previous floral design work
  • Retail floral design or event floral design experience a plus
  • Formal floral design training from accredited institution a plus

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must provide a Certificate of Insurance for liability coverage (Freelance roles only)
  • Must have a reliable vehicle or transportation
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of different flower types and proper floral care
  • Flexible schedule including Saturday and Sunday
  • Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Must be able to work well under pressure managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to perform daily tasks
  • High school diploma or higher
  • Proficient in English reading & writing
  • Proficient with iPad and iMac usage
